St Louis Art Museum

The St Louis Museum is under renovation and will open its new wing 2013.

This Monet Water lily painting has sisters in Kansas City and Cleveland that make up a three part painting.

Matisses Figuress have a direct lineage through the Cezanne Bathers.

Roy Lichtenstein at the Art Institute of Chicago

This retrospective is really good to see. In later Lichtenstein there is a lot of experimenting and when they are good they are great, then some fall away. But over all the show holds up well for me. I like the rooms of large scale paintings.

New Contemporary Wing, Chicago Art Institute

Never realized there were so many green paintings out there but the Museums all have them up.

The nice thing about these regional Museums is that they are a bit more moble in the ideas they present.

This is interesting near the large Picasso below.

Similar to the Murray in Kansas City.

Hot off the Press.

A classic de Kooning.

This is a really important de Kooning.

This is a really interesting  Picasso with a great presence.

More Parfleche inspired designs from Nelson Atkins Museum Kansas City , MO

Parfleche sounds more interesting than it seems-- a rawhide soaked in lye---
so my title is misleading. I got interested in the relation of the Parflech designs to contemporary painting on this trip-- And it sort of ballooned--
